Healthcare ultimately aims to eradicate diseases and restore normality to people’s lives. However, until this is achieved for every person, there is a need to support and assist patients with psoriasis using non-pharmacological interventions. These ‘adjuvant’ approaches have received little attention, whereas dermatologists and researchers strive for better pharmacological therapy. Here, we aimed to perform a scoping review to identify and catalogue non-pharmacological interventions for patients with psoriasis.
A scoping review.
All healthcare settings.
EMBASE, PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO and Scopus databases were searched from their inception to June 2022. Irrespective of the study type, the studies included non-pharmacological interventions for patients with psoriasis. This theme was extracted from the included articles. Two reviewers independently screened and analysed the data.
From 1322 initial records, 71 studies were identified and analysed. Non-pharmacological interventions for patients with psoriasis include two levels: organisational and individual. The organisational non-pharmacological interventions included the nationwide healthcare model (PsPSP, ProvenCare, German PsoHealth and Psoriasis Network, IMPROVE model and PsoWell clinic), innovative teledermatology models (mHealth app, electronic Targeted Intervention for Psoriasis study and therapist-guided internet-based cognitive and behavioural treatments) and multidisciplinary interventions. The individual non-pharmacological interventions included educational interventions (therapeutic patient education, psychoeducational intervention and self-management education), psychosocial interventions (cognitive and behavioural treatments, self-help and peer-to-peer support programmes) and others (happify and motivational interviewing-based training).
Based on previous literature, a nationwide healthcare model protocol was constructed for patients with psoriasis. This provided the direction for developing a new psoriasis healthcare model and a basis for summarising the non-pharmacological interventions for patients with psoriasis, which helps them adjust to changes in the skin disease.

This systematic review aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of the two-point method in predicting 1RM compared to the direct method, as well as analyze the factors influencing its accuracy. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and SPORTDiscus databases was conducted. Out of the 88 initially identified studies, 16 were selected for full review, and their outcome measures were analyzed. The findings of this review indicated that the two-point method slightly overestimated 1RM (effect size = 0.203 [95%CI: 0.132, 0.275]; Pby Dan Wang, Heming Ge, Yebin Lu, Xuejun Gong
BackgroundAppendiceal tumors are considered to be a relatively rare tumor of the gastrointestinal tract and the prognosis is unclear. This study comprehensively investigated trends in the epidemiology and survival of appendiceal tumors in the United States over the past approximately 20 years.
MethodsPatients with pathologically confirmed appendiceal tumors from 2000 to 2017 were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. Age-adjusted incidence rates were calculated by SEER*Stat 8.4.0. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to analyze survival and prognostic factors were investigated by a multivariate Cox proportional risk model.
ResultsUltimately, 13,546 patients with appendiceal tumors between 2000 and 2017 were included. The annual incidence of colonic adenocarcinoma and mucinous adenocarcinoma remained relatively stable. Interestingly, the annual incidence of appendiceal neuroendocrine tumors (aNETs) increased significantly, from 0.03 to 0.90 per 100,000 person-years, with the most dramatic increase in the number of patients with localized disease. Patients with aNETs showed a significant improvement in survival between 2009–2017, compared to the period 2000–2008. Moreover, this improvement in survival over time was seen at all stages (localized, regional, distant) of aNETs. However, this improved survival over time was not seen in colonic and mucinous adenocarcinoma.
ConclusionsThe incidence of appendiceal neoplasms has increased significantly over the past nearly two decades, which is mainly due to the increased incidence and significant migration to earlier stages in aNETs. We must note that despite the increased incidence of aNETs, survival rates have improved at different disease stages.
This study aimed to describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) of nurses in implementing advance directives (ADs) for older patients and analyze the influencing factors before the establishment of the first advance directives act in China.
Multicenter cross-sectional survey. The standards for reporting the STROBE checklist are used.
This cross-sectional study developed a self-designed structured questionnaire to assess nurses' knowledge, attitudes and practices about ADs. Nurses were recruited by stratified random sampling through the Nursing Departments of 12 hospitals in southwest China and were asked to fill out the questionnaire face to face about knowledge, attitudes and practices. Data were analyzed following descriptive statistics, rank-sum test and multiple linear regression.
This study included 950 nurses. The study found that nurses were extremely supportive of ADs. Unmarried nurses had better knowledge of ADs than married ones. Nevertheless, there was a discrepancy between the participants' knowledge, attitude and practice. The participants' practice was lower (4.3%) compared with their attitude (81.9%) and knowledge (42.2%). Knowledge on, attitudes towards and standardized procedures for ADs in the workplace affected nursing practice.
The study recommends that courses on ADs and appropriate support from medical institutions should be provided to nurses to increase their knowledge and confidence in implementing ADs. Healthcare professionals should be sufficiently equipped to implement ADs and handle their execution appropriately to provide adequate end-of-life care corresponding to patients' wishes.
The study results inform rich insights as it discusses the numerous interrelating factors influencing these three fundamental aspects that affect the success of any AD policy by surveying the knowledge, attitudes and practices of clinical nurses. Furthermore, our results hint at distinct areas of improvement in the nursing practice to facilitate the wider implementation and acceptance of ADs in China.

To identify available instruments for assessing cancer patients' spiritual needs and to examine their psychometric properties using the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) methodology.
Cancer patients frequently have significant spiritual needs. The nurse plays an integral role in assessing the patient's spiritual needs as part of providing holistic care. It is crucial to assess these needs using appropriate and reliable instruments.
A systematic review based on COSMIN methodology.
Seven electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, ProQuest, CNKI and WANFANG) were systematically searched from inception until 14 February 2023. Two authors independently screened eligible literature, extracted data and evaluated methodological and psychometric quality. This systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA checklist.
Sixteen studies have reported 16 different versions of the instruments. None of the instruments were properly assessed for all psychometric properties, nor were measurement error, responsiveness and cross-cultural validity/measurement invariance reported. All of the instruments failed to meet the COSMIN quality criteria for content validity. The quality of evidence for structural validity and/or internal consistency in five instruments did not meet the COSMIN criteria. Eventually, five instruments were not recommended, and 11 were only weakly recommended.
Instruments to assess spiritual needs exhibited limited reliability and validity. The Spiritual Care Needs Scale is provisionally recommended for research and clinical settings, but its limitations regarding content validity and cross-cultural application must be considered in practice. Future research should further revise the content of available instruments and comprehensively and correctly test their psychometric properties.
The review findings will provide evidence for healthcare professionals to select instruments for recognising spiritual needs in cancer patients.
