Clinical efficacy of blood derivatives on wound healing: A systematic review and network meta‐analysis

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the clinical effects of different blood derivatives on wound healing using network meta-analysis. PubMed, Embase, OVID, Web of Science, SCOPUS and Cochrane Central were searched to obtain studies about blood derivatives on wound healing until October 2023. R 4.2.0 and Stata 15.0 softwares were used for data analysis. Forty-four studies comprising 5164 patients were included. The results of network meta-analysis showed that the healing area from high to low was GF + ORCCB, ORCCB, GF, PRF, Unnas paste dressing, APG, PRP injection, PRP, PRP + thrombin gel, PPP, HPL, CT. The healing time from low to high was PRP + thrombin gel, GF, PRP, PC + K, PC, APG, PRF, CT, Silver sulfadiazine ointment. The number of patients cured from high to low was APG, PRP injection, PRP, Aurix, PRF, Leucopatch, HPL, Antimicrobial Ointment Dressing, CT, 60 μg/cm2 repifermin, 120 μg/cm2 repifermin, AFG, PPP. The order of analgesic effect from high to low was AFG, Aminogam gel, PRF, PRP, Oxidised oil, APG, GF, CT. The order of the number of wound infection cases from low to high is APG, 20 μg/cm2 repifermin, 60 μg/cm2 repifermin, PRP, LeucoPatch, CT, PPP, Antiseptic ointment dressing. Healing area: GF + ORCCB had the best effect; Healing time: PRP + thrombin gel took the shortest time. The number of cured patients and the reduction of wound infection: APG has the best effect. Analgesic effect: AFG has the best effect. More studies with large sample sizes are needed to confirm the above findings.

A multi-view convolutional neural network method combining attention mechanism for diagnosing autism spectrum disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition whose current psychiatric diagnostic process is subjective and behavior-based. In contrast, functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can objectively measure brain activity and is useful for identifying brain disorders. However, the ASD diagnostic models employed to date have not reached satisfactory levels of accuracy. This study proposes the use of MAACNN, a method that utilizes multi-view convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in conjunction with attention mechanisms for identifying ASD in multi-scale fMRI. The proposed algorithm effectively combines unsupervised and supervised learning. In the initial stage, we employ stacked denoising autoencoders, an unsupervised learning method for feature extraction, which provides different nodes to adapt to multi-scale data. In the subsequent stage, we perform supervised learning by employing multi-view CNNs for classification and obtain the final results. Finally, multi-scale data fusion is achieved by using the attention fusion mechanism. The ABIDE dataset is used to evaluate the model we proposed., and the experimental results show that MAACNN achieves superior performance with 75.12% accuracy and 0.79 AUC on ABIDE-I, and 72.88% accuracy and 0.76 AUC on ABIDE-II. The proposed method significantly contributes to the clinical diagnosis of ASD.

Effects of high-intensity functional training on physical fitness and sport-specific performance among the athletes: A systematic review with meta-analysis

Objective

This study aims to meta-analyze the impact of high-intensity functional training on athletes’ physical fitness and sport-specific performance.

Methods

A systematic search was conducted in five well-known academic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, EBSCOhost, and the Cochrane Library) up to July 1, 2023. The literature screening criteria included: (1) studies involving healthy athletes, (2) a HIFT program, (3) an assessment of outcomes related to athletes’ physical fitness or sport-specific performance, and (4) the inclusion of randomized controlled trials. The Physical Therapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale was used to evaluate the quality of studies included in the meta-analysis.

Results

High-intensity functional training effectively improves athletes’ muscle strength, power, flexibility, and sport-specific performance but has no significant impact on endurance and agility. Promoting wound recovery through stable intestinal flora: Reducing post‐operative complications in colorectal cancer surgery patients

Abstract

In recent years, the relationship between intestinal flora and post-operative recovery, particularly in colorectal cancer (CRC) surgery patients, it has been hypothesized that intestinal flora stability influences wound healing, reduces complications and improves overall recovery outcomes after surgical interventions. This study examined the relationship between intestinal flora stability and post-operative recovery in patients undergoing CRC surgery. Between May 2020 and 2023, 80 CRC patients from our hospital's Colorectal Surgery Department were enrolled. A random number table was used to divide them into two categories. Both groups were subjected to distinct gastrointestinal preparation protocols. Indicators of clinical therapeutic effect, intestinal flora balance following surgery, post-operative complications and quality of life were evaluated. The observation group, which adhered to a distinct gastrointestinal regimen, demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in post-operative outcomes, with a clinical effectiveness rate of 97.5% compared to the control group's 75%. In addition, the observation group had a lower incidence of intestinal flora imbalance following surgery than the control group. The observation group had lower incidences of intestinal obstruction, infection, anastomotic leakage, incisional tumour implantation and delayed diarrhoea. Using the KPS score and the BMI, post-treatment assessments of the observation group's quality of life revealed significant enhancements in comparison to the control group. Additionally, wound healing rates were superior in the observation group, with a correlation between stable intestinal flora and decreased wound infection rates. The type of post-operative diet influenced the stabilization of the gut flora, with a high-fibre diet producing superior results in both groups. The stability of intestinal flora influences the post-operative rehabilitation of patients undergoing CRC surgery favourably. Appropriate bowel preparation and dietary considerations can reduce post-operative complications, improve wound healing rates and enhance overall quality of life.
