The Mediating Role of Death Coping Between Moral Resilience and Vicarious Posttraumatic Growth Among ICU Nurses

ABSTRACT

Aim

This study aimed to examine the level of vicarious posttraumatic growth among intensive care unit nurses in China and explore the mediating role of death coping ability in the relationship between moral resilience and vicarious posttraumatic growth.

Study Design

A multicentre, cross-sectional study was conducted in accordance with the STROBE guidelines.

Methods

Between January and March 2025, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 666 intensive care unit nurses from nine tertiary Grade A hospitals across five provinces in China. Participants completed three standardised instruments: the Rushton Moral Resilience Scale, the Coping with Death Scale–Short Version, and the Vicarious Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. We used IBM SPSS 27.0 for descriptive statistics, univariate analyses, and correlation analyses, and employed AMOS 27.0 to perform structural equation modelling for testing mediation effects.

Results

Intensive care unit nurses demonstrated a moderate level of vicarious posttraumatic growth. Moral resilience was positively associated with both death coping ability and vicarious posttraumatic growth. Death coping ability was found to play a partial mediating role in the relationship between moral resilience and vicarious posttraumatic growth.

Conclusion

Moral resilience and death coping ability are key factors associated with vicarious posttraumatic growth among intensive care unit nurses. Nurses with stronger moral resilience are more likely to cope constructively with death-related stress, which may support psychological growth in trauma-intensive environments.

Impact

This study highlights the need to enhance intensive care unit nurses' moral and emotional capacities through ethics education, emotional coping training, and institutional support strategies. Strengthening these competencies may foster professional development and mental wellbeing in critical care settings.

Consequences in critically ill patients with prolonged mechanical ventilation after diaphragmatic stimulation techniques: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Objective

Prolonged mechanical ventilation (MV) may lead to poor outcomes. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effects of diaphragmatic stimulation on the duration of MV (DMV), the intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay (ILOS), the proportion of patients successfully weaned and maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) in patients with prolonged MV.

Design

Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Data sources

Cochrane library, Embase, Pubmed and Web of Science up to December 2024.

Eligibility criteria for selecting studies

Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies evaluating the outcomes of patients with prolonged MV after diaphragmatic stimulation were included up to December 2024.

Data extraction and synthesis

All articles were independently assessed by two reviewers, and a third reviewer was consulted to resolve different evaluations. Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and the Cochrane Collaboration tool in RevMan V.5.3 software (The Cochrane Collaboration, 2014) were applied to assess the quality of cohort studies or RCTs. The meta-analysis was carried out with RevMan V.5.3 software, applying a random-effects model and presenting results with 95% CIs. Heterogeneity was examined using the Higgins I² statistic, and subgroup analyses were carried out to investigate possible contributors to heterogeneity. Sensitivity analyses were further conducted in Stata 18.0 (StataCorp LP, College Station, TX, USA). Potential publication bias was assessed through funnel plots combined with Egger’s regression test. For each outcome, the certainty of evidence was appraised according to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE).

Results

Ten studies involving 802 patients (349 received diaphragmatic stimulation) were included. The meta-analysis indicated that patients receiving diaphragmatic stimulation had shorter DMV (mean differences (MD) –5.69 d, 95% CI –10.99 to –0.39, p=0.04) and ILOS (MD –5.48 d, 95% CI –10.72 to –0.24, p=0.04). The proportion of patients successfully weaned was larger in patients with diaphragmatic stimulation (risk ratios (RR) 1.25, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.53, p=0.04). The MIP increased compared with the control group.

Conclusions

The promising results suggest that diaphragmatic stimulation has the potential to shorten DMV and ILOS and accelerate weaning from ventilator.

Luminance and thresholding limitations of virtual reality headsets for visual field testing

Purpose

To investigate the luminance capacity and achievable threshold levels of commercially employed virtual reality (VR) devices for visual field testing.

Methods

This two-part study included (1) a literature review of VR headsets used for perimetry with luminance data extracted from technical specifications in publications and manufacturers; and (2) empirical evaluation of three most employed VR headsets in the literature using a custom virtual testing environment.

Results

Three most employed VR devices for visual field testing were Pico Neo, Oculus Quest, and HTC Vive. The maximum reported luminance was 250 cd/m2 for the HTC Vive Pro. Information on luminance measurement was not consistently available, reporting only handheld luminance meters. Empirical measurements show that handheld luminance meters significantly overestimate luminance compared to standard spectroradiometers. Measured luminance varies significantly across aperture size and decreases for peripheral stimuli up to 30 degrees peripherally. Assuming conventional background of 10 cd/m2, the best performance with lowest possible thresholding was with HTC Vive at 16dB, corresponding to luminance of 80 cd/m2 centrally. Oculus Quest 2 and Pico Neo 3 had minimum threshold of 20dB.

Conclusion

Commercially available VR devices do not meet luminance requirements or threshold sensitivities for visual field testing. Current VR technology is not designed—nor has the capacity—to threshold at mid-to-low dB ranges, which limits accuracy in diagnosing and monitoring defects seen in glaucoma. Translational Relevance: This study highlights the technical limitations of current commercially available VR devices for visual field testing and significant variables in evaluating luminance performance in these devices.

Construct prediction models for low muscle mass with metabolic syndrome using machine learning

Background

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and sarcopenia are major global public health problems, and their coexistence significantly increases the risk of death. In recent years, this trend has become increasingly prominent in younger populations, posing a major public health challenge. Numerous studies have regarded reduced muscle mass as a reliable indicator for identifying pre-sarcopenia. Nevertheless, there are currently no well-developed methods for identifying low muscle mass in individuals with MetS.

Methods

A total of 2,467 MetS patients (aged 18–59 years) with low muscle mass assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) were included using data from the 2011–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression was then used to screen for important features. A total of nine Machine learning (ML) models were constructed in this study. Area under the curve (AUC), F1 Score, Recall, Precision, Accuracy, Specificity, PPV, and NPV were used to evaluate the model’s performance and explain important predictors using the Shapley Additive Explain (SHAP) values.

Results

The Logistic Regression (LR) model performed the best overall, with an AUC of 0.925 (95% CI: 0.9043, 0.9443), alongside strong F1-score (0.87) and specificity (0.89). Five important predictors are displayed in the summary plot of SHAP values: height, gender, waist circumference, thigh length, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP).

Conclusion

This study developed an interpretable ML model based on SHAP methodology to identify risk factors for low muscle mass in a young population of MetS patients. Additionally, a web-based tool was implemented to facilitate sarcopenia screening.

Global burden of brain and central nervous system cancer among people aged 20-64 years, 1992-2021 and projections to 2050: a population-based study

Objectives

To estimate the burden, trends, and inequalities of brain and central nervous system cancer (CNS cancer) among adults at global, regional and national level from 1992 to 2021.

Design

Population-based study.

Population

Adults aged 20–64 years from 21 regions and 204 countries and territories (Global Burden of Disease and Risk Factors Study 2021) from 1992 to 2021.

Main outcome measures

Our primary outcomes comprised age-standardised prevalence, incidence, mortality and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for CNS cancers. The analytical framework incorporated temporal trend analysis through annual percentage change (APC) and average APC (AAPC) metrics, complemented by Bayesian age-period-cohort modelling to assess demographic influences. We employed predictive modelling with decomposition techniques to evaluate contributions from age structure shifts, population dynamics and risk factor modifications, while spatiotemporal Gaussian process regression enabled robust smoothing and trend estimation across continuous time-space dimensions. The study specifically applied frontier analysis methodologies to examine epidemiological patterns of prevalence, incidence, mortality and DALYs within the 20–64 years adult population.

From 1992 to 2021, the global age-standardised prevalence and incidence of CNS cancer among adults aged 20–64 years increased, while age-standardised DALYs and mortality decreased. The most significant increase in prevalence and incidence was observed among those aged 20–24 years. The most significant decrease in DALYs and mortality was observed among those aged 40–44 years. The rate of increase in prevalence and incidence was lower in high SDI countries compared with low-SDI countries. DALYs and mortality began to decline in high-SDI countries, but these indicators continue to rise in low-SDI nations. Our predictive analysis found that from 2021 to 2050, the number of CNS cancer cases among people aged 20–64 years will be on the rise globally, which is expected to increase from 186 891 to 245 942, an increase of 31.6%.

Conclusions

Significant inequalities exist in age-standardised prevalence, incidence, DALYs and mortality of CNS cancer among countries with varying sociodemographic indices. These disparities highlight the urgent need for targeted clinical guidelines and equitable distribution of global health resources.

Factors influencing the psychological well-being of patients undergoing haemodialysis in Taiwan: an observational study

Objectives

We aimed to understand the factors affecting psychological well-being of patients undergoing haemodialysis (HD). First, we explored how physical symptom severity, emotional distress and social support influence psychological well-being. Second, we examined the impact of different types of social support. Third, we investigated whether any variables mediate the relationship with psychological well-being.

Design and setting

A cross-sectional study, a type of observational design, was conducted on patients at a medical centre in Taiwan in 2020.

Participants

A total of 117 outpatients who had undergone regular HD for at least 3 months were enrolled.

Primary outcome measures

The psychological well-being was assessed through self-report questionnaires.

Results

We found that emotional distress (β=–0.25, p=0.033) had a significant negative impact on psychological well-being. However, the presence of appraisal support mitigated this effect. Specifically, appraisal support fully mediated the adverse impact of emotional distress on psychological well-being. In addition, the severity of physical symptoms was generally mild and did not influence psychological well-being.

Conclusion

Receiving appraisal support from family, friends and healthcare professionals not only alleviates emotional distress but also enhances psychological well-being both directly and indirectly among patients undergoing HD. Healthcare professionals should address issues of personal importance while serving as consultants, educators and evaluators to support patients in managing their chronic condition.

Creating Colostomies for Sacral Pressure Ulcers: A Single‐Centre Retrospective Study

ABSTRACT

Faecal contamination of sacral pressure ulcers occurs frequently, so, theoretically, faecal diversion using colostomies is a useful procedure. We retrospectively analysed the data of adult patients for whom colostomies were created to enhance wound healing and compared patients with sacral pressure ulcers who received colostomies and those who did not during the same period. Patients' characteristics analysed included age, gender, comorbidities, WBC count, serum CRP level and microbial profile (before creating colostomy). Additionally, we examined whether the wound was closed, the recurrence rate after wound closure, and mortality outcomes. Regression analysis indicated that colostomy creation was associated with fewer species of gut microbiota cultured and lower rates of wound dehiscence after closure; no association was found between colostomy and mortality. Colostomies help promote wound healing of sacral pressure ulcers after closure by eradicating wound infection, and do not increase patients' mortality rates.

Mediating Effects of Parental Family Adaptation on the Quality of Life of Children With Down Syndrome: A Study of Father–Mother Dyads

ABSTRACT

Aim

To investigate the impact of parenting stress in both fathers and mothers on the quality of life (QoL) of children with down syndrome (DS) and the mediating effect of family adaptation.

Design

This cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2023 and August 2023.

Methods

A total of 106 father–mother dyads of children with DS aged 2–12 years in South Korea were included. The parents independently completed questionnaires assessing parenting stress, family adaptation, and their children's QoL. The Actor–Partner Interdependence Mediation Model was used for the dyadic analysis.

Results

The direct effect of parenting stress on children's QoL was not significant; however, the indirect effect of family adaptation was significant. Fathers' parenting stress indirectly influenced their children's QoL through their own and their mothers' family adaptations. Conversely, mothers' parenting stress indirectly influenced their children's QoL through their own family adaptation, although the mediating effect of fathers was not statistically significant.

Conclusions

Higher family adaptation in both fathers and mothers was associated with an improved QoL in children with DS. The pathways through which parents influenced their children's QoL differed but were interdependent. Therefore, dyadic interventions aimed at improving family adaptation in both fathers and mothers may help improve the QoL of children with DS.

Impact

This is the first study to examine parental influence on children's QoL based on dyadic interactions among fathers, mothers, and children with DS. This study highlights the importance of assessing and promoting fathers' and mothers' levels of family adaptation to improve the QoL of children with DS. Nurses should consider effective dyadic interventions for families that include both parents to maximise improvements in the QoL of children with DS.

Advancing fall risk prediction in older adults with cognitive frailty: A machine learning approach using 2-year clinical data

Falls are a critical concern in older adults with cognitive frailty (CF). However, previous studies have not fully examined whether machine learning models can predict falls in older individuals with CF. The 2-year longitudinal data set from the Korean Frailty and Aging Cohort Study and machine learning approach were utilized to predict fall risk. We analyzed multidimensional health data, including demographics, clinical conditions, as well as the physical and psychological health factors of 443 older adults with CF identified out of 2,404 older adults. For fall risk prediction, we developed a machine learning framework incorporating logistic regression, bootstrapping, and recursive feature elimination. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences between the non-faller and faller groups for nine clinical conditions as well as physical and psychological variables. Using nine significant variables, our machine-learning-based model demonstrated good predictive performance with an area under the curve (AUC) exceeding 80%. Furthermore, our machine learning framework identified four optimal variables: the number of Fried physical frailty (PF) phenotypes, PF-Mobility scores, scores from the Korean version of the Short Geriatric Depression Scale, and scores from SARC-F (consisting of five components: strength, assistance with walking, rising from a chair, climbing stairs, and experiencing falls). It demonstrated excellent predictive performance, with an AUC, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy exceeding 95%. These variables reflect the critical association between physical and psychological health and fall risk. These findings underscore the importance of integrating multidimensional health data with machine learning methodologies to accurately predict fall risk in older adults with CF, design targeted interventions, and enable healthcare professionals to implement strategies to reduce and prevent such falls.

Trajectories and Co‐Occurrence of Perceived Control in Patients With Heart Failure and Self‐Efficacy in Their Caregivers: A Three‐Month Longitudinal Study of Dual Trajectories

ABSTRACT

Aim

This study aims to explore the trajectories and co-occurrence of perceived control and caregiver self-efficacy among patients with heart failure (HF) and their caregivers within 3 months post-discharge and identify associated risk factors.

Design

A prospective cohort design.

Methods

A prospective cohort study was conducted from March to June 2024 in Tianjin, China. Information on perceived control and caregiver self-efficacy was collected 24 h before discharge, 2 weeks, 1 month, and 3 months after discharge. Group-Based Dual Trajectory Modelling (GBDTM) and logistic regression were used for analysis.

Results

The study included 203 dyads of patients with HF and their caregivers (HF dyads). Perceived control identified three trajectories: low curve (15.3%), middle curve (57.1%) and high curve (27.6%). Caregiver self-efficacy demonstrated three trajectories: low curve (17.2%), middle curve (56.7%) and high stable (26.1%). GBDTM revealed nine co-occurrence patterns, with the highest proportion (36.7%) being ‘middle-curve group for perceived control and middle-curve group for caregiver self-efficacy’, and 16.7% being ‘high-curve group for perceived control and high-stable group for caregiver self-efficacy’. Age, gender, household income, NYHA class, symptom burden and psychological resilience were identified as risk factors for perceived control trajectories; marital status, regular exercise and psychological resilience were identified as risk factors for caregiver self-efficacy trajectories.

Conclusion

We identified distinct trajectories, co-occurrence patterns and risk factors of perceived control and caregiver self-efficacy among HF dyads. These findings help clinical nurses to better design and implement interventions, strengthening the comprehensive management and care outcomes for HF dyads.

Impact

These findings highlighted the interactive relationship between perceived control and caregiver self-efficacy trajectories, suggesting that interventions should boost both to improve personalised treatment plans and outcomes for HF dyads.

The Impact of International Visiting Scholars Programmes on Nursing PhD Students: An Integrative Review

ABSTRACT

Aim

To explore the impact of international visiting scholars programmes on the academic and professional development of nursing PhD students and to inform future doctoral curriculum design.

Design

Integrative review.

Methods

A systematic search was conducted across six databases (Embase, Medline, CINAHL, ERIC, Scopus and Web of Science) in December 2024, with no restrictions on publication year. After removing duplicates, 1300 records were screened by title, abstract and full text. Studies were included if they focused on nursing PhD students participating in international visiting programmes and addressed academic or professional development. Five studies met the inclusion criteria. Data were synthesised using a thematic analysis approach.

Results

Four themes were identified: (1) advancing academic excellence through enhanced research skills and critical thinking; (2) cultivating cross-cultural learning by fostering cultural sensitivity and adaptability; (3) fostering global networks that promote sustained international collaboration; and (4) shaping doctoral education by encouraging structured and sustainable international experiences. These findings suggest that international visiting scholars programmes contribute meaningfully to the academic, cultural and professional growth of nursing PhD students.

Conclusion

International visiting scholars programmes provide a unique platform for doctoral nursing students to strengthen their academic foundations and expand their global outlook. Integrating such experiences into doctoral curricula can better prepare future nursing leaders for international health challenges.

Impact

This review addresses a gap in the literature by focusing on the doctoral-level outcomes of international visiting scholars programmes in nursing. The findings offer guidance for educators and policymakers to design curricula that integrate global engagement, build institutional support for mobility programmes and promote equitable access to international academic opportunities in nursing education.

Experiences and Role Adaptation of Nursing PhDs in Hospital Settings: A Qualitative Study

ABSTRACT

Aims

To explore the experiences, perceptions, and role adaptation of nursing PhDs in hospital settings in China.

Design

A descriptive phenomenological qualitative study.

Methods

Individual in-depth interviews were conducted with eight female nursing PhD holders from eight tertiary hospitals across five provinces between November 2024 and February 2025. Data were concurrently collected and analysed using NVivo 11.0, guided by Colaizzi's seven-step analysis.

Results

Four main themes were identified: (1) Multidimensional motivations for choosing hospital work; (2) professional challenges; (3) perceived professional value and benefits; and (4) career expectations and developmental recommendations. Fifteen subthemes further detailed these dynamics.

Conclusion

This study offers a nuanced understanding of the career development of nursing PhDs within hospital settings. The findings reveal the complex interplay of factors influencing their decisions to enter clinical practice. Moreover, it underscores the dual challenges of role ambiguity and limited resources, while also illustrating the transformative potential of applying academic training to drive clinical innovation among nursing PhDs in hospital environments.

Implications for the Profession

These findings offer critical insights for hospital administrators and educational policymakers. By elucidating the career development challenges and opportunities for nursing PhDs, the study underscores the need for tailored talent management frameworks and targeted educational reforms. The findings have important implications for hospital settings in China and offer guidance for global strategies in talent management and clinical education reform, ultimately contributing to improved patient care and healthcare outcomes.

Mental Health Services Provided by Nurses in Schools and Higher Education Institutions in the Post COVID‐19 Era: Impeding Factors From a National Online Survey

Aim (s)

To examine competencies, attitudes, barriers and factors that influence the provision of mental health services by nurses in schools and higher education institutions in the post COVID-19 era in Taiwan.

Design

This cross-sectional study used nationwide proportionate stratified random sampling to recruit nurses from K–12 schools and higher education institutions.

Methods

Data were collected through an online survey administered between July and December 2024, with 305 responses received (response rate = 46.4%).

Results

Among the respondents, 55.1% provided advanced mental health services, while 38.3% delivered basic mental health services. The main barriers to the delivery of mental health services were lack of mental health-screening training (63.3%), insufficient brief screening tools (46.2%) and time constraints (42.6%). Nurses in junior and senior high schools were 5.78 and 3.07 times more likely, respectively, to provide advanced mental health services compared to those in universities. Furthermore, significant predictors of the provision of advanced mental health services included working in junior or senior high school, higher competence, and more positive attitudes; perceiving time constraints was a significant barrier.

Conclusion

Working in junior and senior high school settings was the most significant predictor of delivering advanced mental health services. These results underscore the need for targeted professional training, enhanced resources, and inter-professional collaboration to improve the quality of school-based mental health services.

Implications for Nursing Practice

Enhancing the attitudes and competencies of nurses in schools and higher education institutions towards mental health care is essential. Training should target nurses working in junior and senior high schools. Administrators must improve workflows, provide better tools and address barriers such as time constraints and limited referrals to support students' mental well-being.

Impact

This study examined the barriers to mental health service delivery among nurses in schools and higher education institutions and identified key determinants influencing their provision of such services. Nurses in schools and higher education institutions face challenges in providing mental health services due to a lack of mental health training, insufficient brief screening tools and time constraints. Advanced services were more common in junior and senior high schools, with competence and attitude being key predictors of their delivery.

Proximal and distal middle cerebral artery diameter ratio and lenticulostriate artery infarction

Background

Lipohyalinotic degeneration (LD) and branch atheromatous disease (BAD) can contribute to subcortical infarctions in the lenticulostriate artery (LSA) territory. This study aimed to identify the association between the proximal and distal middle cerebral artery (MCA) diameter ratio and the two different pathomechanisms of LSA infarction.

Methods

Patients with acute LSA infarctions categorized as small vessel occlusive disease were included. Demographic and clinical data, along with MCA geometrical variables, were collected. LD and BAD were differentiated based on the length of the infarction diameter and number of axial slices. The proximal/distal M1 diameter ratio was calculated. MCA geometrics between LD and BAD were compared. Independent factors associated with LD were investigated. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was used to evaluate hemodynamic parameters.

Results

A total of 117 patients were included, of whom 64 (54.7%) and 53 (45.3%) were classified as BAD and LD, respectively. LD was associated with hypertension and favorable prognosis. MCA geometric variables revealed that LD had a higher proximal/distal M1 diameter ratio, indicating a potential distinguishing factor. Multivariate analysis confirmed the independent association between LD and the proximal/distal M1 diameter ratio. The proximal/distal M1 diameter ratio also showed a positive correlation with the number of ipsilesional lacunes. CFD analysis showed that the LD model had faster, greater blood influx into LSAs and higher wall shear stress and pressure gradient compared with the BAD model.

Conclusions

This study suggests MCA geometry, particularly the proximal/distal M1 diameter ratio, may serve as an independent factor for identifying LD.

This study was conducted using Noblit and Hare's approach, which included reciprocal translation, refutational synthesis, and line-of-argument synthesis. Methodological rigour and credibility were evaluated using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program (CASP) checklist. The review included peer-reviewed qualitative studies published in English or Korean that focused on nurses' or nursing students' views on dignified death in end-of-life care.

Data Sources

A systematic search was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and the Web of Science in August 2023, with an updated search in August 2024. Seventeen qualitative studies published between 2010 and 2024 met the inclusion criteria.

Results

Four interconnected themes emerged: A death that embraces humanity, a death that preserves personal identity, a death that facilitates connection and reconciliation, and a death that affirms acceptance and spiritual serenity. These themes, including eight sub-themes, highlight cultural influences shaping nurses' approaches to dignified death.

Conclusion

The findings emphasise the influence of cultural context in shaping end-of-life care and support the development of culturally sensitive nursing education and guidelines to enhance care quality.

This research provides culturally grounded strategies to improve end-of-life care and strengthen nurses' competencies in delivering holistic support.

Current Status and Influencing Factors of Death Preparedness in Advanced Cancer Patients Based on the PRECEDE‐PROCEED Model: A Cross‐Sectional Study

ABSTRACT

Background

Death preparedness is an important prerequisite for improving the quality of life and the quality of death in advanced cancer patients. However, research on the level of death preparedness in patients is insufficient, and there is little understanding of the current status and influencing factors of death preparedness in advanced cancer patients.

Aim

This study aims to assess the current status of death preparedness and its influencing factors in advanced cancer patients.

Methods

Based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model, a structured survey questionnaire was designed to collect data on personal factors (such as gender, age and residence area), interpersonal factors (such as social support, caregiver readiness and healthcare worker readiness) and social factors (such as care resources, policy support and information supply). Through multiple linear regression and BP neural network analysis, the study explores the impact and significance of these influencing factors on death preparedness in advanced cancer patients.

Results

A total of 930 valid questionnaires were collected in this study. The death preparedness score in advanced cancer patients was 72.18 ± 22.82, indicating a moderate level, with the highest score being the ‘reflexive care’ dimension and the lowest score being the ‘hospice programme’ dimension. Multivariate analysis revealed that meaning in life and social support were the most significant predictors of death preparedness in advanced cancer patients. In addition, personal factors such as dignity, household income and coping style, also played an important role. Interpersonal factors like social support, as well as social factors such as care resources and policy support, also had an impact on patients' death preparedness to some extent.

Conclusion

Death preparedness in advanced cancer patients is generally at a moderate level, and death preparedness is influenced by a combination of personal factors, interpersonal factors and social factors.

Impact

This study is based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model to comprehensively explore the influencing factors of death preparedness in advanced cancer patients. It provides theoretical support for improving life services for advanced cancer patients. It offers valuable practical experience and insights for societal attention and reform in end-of-life care.
