Consumption of ultra-processed foods and low dietary diversity are associated with sedentary and unhealthy eating behaviors: A nationwide study with Brazilian Schoolchildren

Background

Consumption of ultra-processed foods and low dietary diversity are risk factors for chronic diseases.

Aim

To evaluate the association between food consumption and sedentary and unhealthy eating behaviors of Brazilian schoolchildren between 6 and 11 years old.

Methods

Cross-sectional study. A prevalence sample was calculated considering the number of children enrolled in elementary school. This sample was distributed proportionally to Brazil’s macro-regions and the type of school (public or private). The questionnaire was developed in Google Forms and disseminated through the snowball technique. The questionnaire was filled in by the children’s parents, with information about the child’s identification and health. Afterward, the child completed a questionnaire by her/himself. We used the previously validated Illustrated Questionnaire on Food Consumption for Brazilian Schoolchildren and the Illustrated Questionnaire on Eating and Sedentary Behaviors. The study included 2,021 dyads. Of these, 27.6% of children reported eating five or more ultra-processed foods and 39.0% four or fewer natural or staple foods the previous day. Using screens, proxy of sedentary behavior (Prevalence Ratio–PR = 1.8, Confidence Interval–CI95%1.2–2.8) and eating at irregular hours (PR = 1.6, CI95%1.2–2.2) were risk factors for high consumption of ultra-processed foods and low dietary diversity in schoolchildren. In addition, eating the three main meals on the previous day (PR = 0.6, CI95%0.4–0.8) was identified as protective factors against the consumption of ultra-processed foods and in favor of dietary diversity among schoolchildren.

Conclusion

Sedentary and unhealthy eating behaviors were associated with the consumption of ultra-processed foods and low dietary diversity in Brazilian schoolchildren.

Fatigue and resilience in Master’s and PhD students in the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil: A cross-sectional study

The aim of this study was to analyze levels of fatigue and resilience of Brazilian graduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic and to determine whether there is an association between fatigue and resilience and sociodemographic and academic factors. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and it was discovered that the variables associated with higher levels of resilience were age; having children; being retired; receiving income above five minimum wages; having had greater problems in other phases of the research schedule; coming from private universities; being from the north of Brazil; studying the area of Health; and having their research schedule unaffected during the pandemic. On the other hand, lack of resilience was associated with not having children; being less well-off financially; being younger; being a woman; studying in a public university; and having to postpone part of the research during the pandemic. The conclusion of the study indicated the need for graduate programs to design strategies to deal with fatigue and promote resilience in Master’s and PhD students.

Lactancia materna en una UCI neonatal durante lactantes prematuros: una revisión integradora

Objetivo: Comprender e identificar, utilizando referencias y producciones científicas, sobre la importancia de la lactancia materna en el contexto de las hospitalizaciones de recién nacidos prematuros en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales, además del trabajo de los profesionales de enfermería en la educación y estímulo a la lactancia materna. Method: Se realizó una revisión integradora realizada en las bases de datos de la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS) basada en el cruce de los descriptores, se realizó una encuesta bibliográfica en las siguientes bases de datos: Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS) y Base de Datos de Enfermería (BDENF). Results: Se seleccionaron nueve artículos que abordaron la importancia de la lactancia materna, las condiciones para la promoción y sensibilización de la lactancia materna en Brasil y el papel de los profesionales de enfermería en el contexto de la lactancia materna en Brasil. Conclusions: Este estudio destacó la importancia de la lactancia materna para la salud pública y el desempeño de los profesionales de enfermería en este contexto, actuando como apoyo, promoción, estímulo y orientación para la práctica adecuada de la lactancia materna.

Acciones de la enfermería láser y la estomaterapia: revisión integradora

Objetivo principal: Identificar en la literatura las acciones de la enfermería en láser y estomaterapia.Metodología:Revisión integradora de la literatura realizada en abril de 2022, mediante consulta de las Bases de Datos Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS) a partir de los cruces de los descriptores, se realizó una encuesta bibliográfica en las siguientes bases de datos: Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS) y Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina (MEDLINE). Resultados principales: Se incluyeron once artículos en la muestra, que destacan el uso de la terapia láser de baja intensidad en la cicatrización de heridas con efectos positivos, su uso por parte de la enfermera profesional y la especialización en estomaterapia, poniendo al profesional en el punto de mira. Conclusión principal:La importancia del uso de las nuevas tecnologías en la cicatrización de heridas, como el láser siendo la enfermera el pilar de esta atención, pudiendo especializarse en el área de la estomaterapia, pero es necesario profundizar en la investigación en esta área por parte de las enfermeras.
